Denville Frederick Howell
1929 - 2004
Den was born in Blaengarw, near Bridgend, South Wales. His family moved to Tottenham, London when he was very young. He was educated at St. Ignatius College, and then studied Architecture at the University of London. He joined the Army for a few years, marrying his wife Jean in 1951. Their Daughter, Lesley, was born the following year
He left the Army in 1953 and worked as an Architect at Tottenham Borough Council, then Kingston Corporation. In 1958 he joined the team who were planning Bracknell "New Town". He went to night school and gained his Town Planning qualification. He enjoyed this unique opportunity to be creative and worked on the team until he retired in 1982, when he moved to Warboys in Cambridgeshire
The Fens provided Den with much of his inspiration which you will see in the paintings below. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have.
